Watching "Windows Weekly", the podcast on TWiT.tv, hosted by Leo Laporte.
Uncle Leo just announced that he installed and is running Mint Cinnamon
on his Dell XPS 13. He said that it was very fast, good looking and even
incorporated touch screen! Needless to say, Paul Thurrote and Mary Jo
Foley did not like that, they being Windows advocates.

I know the internet is full of fan boys and trolls and the like on either
side of any issue people concoct, but as someone who's used Linux for close
to 12 years now, I don't see how Mint 17 is NOT the distro the others have
to chase.
Mint just works. I install many tools in a window enviro and they all simply
work. Also, the distro, to my knowledge, is secure.

Also, I recommend installing Catfish and sticking it on your toolbar. This
one got away from me for a few years (because it wouldn't run on another
distro not to named right now) and I didn't realize how much I missed it.
Great search utility, especially if you have terabytes of drives connected.

Yeah, LaPorte shills for Apple a little hard, but I like Leo, nonetheless.

Leo is a fun guy to watch. Used to be on TV for years. Had a great
show I watched regularly. I'm sure Jo Foley took a Valium.

I sometimes watch Windows Weekly to keep up with the Windows thing. I
like Leo and the NetCasts he has created. For Linux related if you don't
already know check out Jupiter Broadcasting.

So I did see this episode where he pulls out his 13" Dell XPS with the
Infinity display and it is running Mint very nicely.

Leo and company was all Mac for a long long time. I wouldn't call him a
schill for Apple at all since he'd been banned from attending their live
presentations. Actually I'd say he's been very balanced even though he
just tends to call em like he sees him. He gets himself in trouble from
time to time because of it.

I do wonder about Paul and Mary as sometimes I feel like they are now so
invested in Microsoft that they continue this because that's what they
know. Not necessarily what they want to cover.

Paul writes whole books on some of these subjects, like the Windows
phone. Which is just crazy in my view. Why bother? But he does it
anyway.

Just curious ... which episode and approximately at what minute mark?
(Don't want to watch a whole lot Windows stuff that means nothing to me.)

A lot of Laporte's stuff is transcribed, so one can 'scan' the
transcription and be done in seconds - much better than trying to 'scan'
a vid.

And/But... the windowsweekly stuff on twit IS transcribed, but not in a
'timely' fashion. Several of the latest episodes aren't done yet.

I found it -- it was near the 1:17:00 mark. Kind of funny to see how
uncomfortable Leo Laporte made Mary Jo Foley and Paul Thurrott by
bringing it up.

Leo "... works great, by the way ... Linux Mint, all the drivers work,
the camera works, everything works. It all works. Just right out of the
box. And the touchscreen even works ..." Mary Jo -- "Don't show Linux on
this show" Leo -- "It runs nicely ..."

I can't imagine watching that show for 2.5 hr each episode. In that one,
MJF & PT were not keeping up the pace, so it was very draggy.

You think that the podcast is draggy, try watching it in "real time" with
the futzing around and stuff they cut out! The best segment of the show
is the end, where they talk about the "Beer of the Week".

What little I saw of it while scanning to the part about Linux Mint,
seemed very repetitious. I agree, I couldn't possibly watch this every
week. I do like the host, Leo Laporte, though.
