Synaptic Package Manager Problem
(too old to reply)

I am using Linux Mint KDE desktop and use Synaptic Package Manager to
install software. I have never had a problem in the past but on this
install I get the following in a terminal window "(synaptic:9597): Gtk-
CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_hide: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed
" I have reinstalled Synaptic and this hasn't solved the problem. It
doesn't seem to cause any problem unless I close the terminal window.
That will also close Synaptic. I am new to Linux so may not understand
more technical aspects of a reply.
Is there a simple way to fix this?
Thank you for your assistance.

I get the same thing when starting Synaptic from the Konsole.

I always start it from the menu under System, Synaptic, and never have
any problems.

I have also noticed that if I start gparted from the console I get
errors. I don't know what the errors mean, but they have never caused
any problems.

I start it from the Start Menu in the left lower corner in the panel.
When I reinstalled it and then restarted the computer it worked OK one
time then back to the error message.

You could check and see if you have libgtk-3.0 installed.

Thank you for getting back to me. I have libgtk-3.0 installed and I read
the forum you referenced. In there one of the comments thought it might
be the theme used so I went into System and changed the GTK theme. That
had no impact. Then I logged out and logged back into the Cinnamon
desktop without rebooting. Synaptic works fine in Cinnamon. No errors
reported. I have to assume it is KDE related and not Synaptic. I won't
worry about it from here on out.
Thank You Again for your help.
