Copying files from Macrium Reflect image in Linux Mint

Does any Windows + Mint user know,

if there is possible in Linux Mint
to anyhow mount / browse / read /copy files
from Windows Macrium Reflect image of NTFS partition ?

A friend of mine made a backup image of her W7 notebook harddisk
to her USB external disk before passing it
to warranty service.

I have temporarily lend her my spare notebook with L Mint 17 Cinnamon.

Yesterday she wanted to see some movie,
that was realized to be stored in Macrium Reflect image.

I am not experienced Mint or Linux user
so I am not sure if it is directly accessible from Linux,
perhapos with some utility help.

It is of course possible to mount it on Windows machine
or - this I am not so sure -
via Macrium BootCD extraction to e.g. her external USB disk.

You can mount any partiton but that doesn't mean Mint can
use/browse/read it. If Mint can see the files it can copy those files
but maybe not do anything else with them.
Linux can use a partition which is set up as a NTFS partition. I do it
with a 3TB external hard drive so my wife and I can both use it. She
uses Windows. Then it depends on whether or not Macrium uses a
proprietary file type or not. If it doesn't and your Linux can't read it
you can most likely find what to use so that Mint can open those files
on the internet.
If it does use a proprietary file type than 50/50 if you can find
something that Mint can use.

It is not partition mirror, ready to mount without driver.

It is proprietary compressed image file of backed up partition,
that Macrium Reflect SW produces, and can eventually mount
via driver as logical disk, e.g. to pick up some files.

If not possible, I have at least tried to ask.
I cannot verify it just now.

I would say 'No.' MR saves disk images as .mrimg files,
presumably/likely a proprietary compression scheme based on LZ with or
without encryption based on AES.

MR does not develop a linux version and MR does not run under WINE.

I have thought like that.

Yes, you can do this, but not the way you would prefer.

Ingredients:

1) xxxxxxxx.mrimg file, staged on an NTFS partition.
In my testing, tool could not "see" EXT2/3/4 family.

2) User *must* make the Macrium Rescue CD, a WAIK based
WinPE boot disk. The user is supposed to prepare one of
these, in order to do "bare metal restore" operation.
If you possess one of these, many things are possible.
The WAIK based CD is 170MB in size, the older Linux LiveCD
for Macrium is around 15MB or so. The Linux one they made
was their first boot CD, and lacks many of the features of
the much larger boot disc.

The steps to "browse" a .mrimg file (as E:), "copy" and "paste" back
to the original NTFS partition (C:) are shown in pictures.

Ignore the title bar at the top of the image. I used a virtual
machine in order to take screenshots. Any old VM would do and
this one was selected at random to host the virtual disk. The
part that says "Macrium Reflect" is the part you will see on
a real PC or laptop.
